Become a Better Farmer in Just 5 Minutes per Week

Read on my website – Read Time: 4 Minutes

Hey Reader,

When someone near you Googles “fresh eggs” or “farm near me,” does your farm show up?

Probably not. And that’s costing you sales.

Here’s the good news: There’s a free tool that fixes this. Takes about 20 minutes. No website needed.

It’s called Google Business Profile.

What It Does

Think of it like a business card on Google. When people search for what you sell, your farm shows up with:

  • Your location (so they can find you)
  • Your hours
  • Your phone number
  • Photos of your farm and products
  • Reviews from customers

All right there when they’re looking. On their phone. Ready to buy.

86% of people searching for local businesses have no idea who you are yet—they’re just searching for what you sell. If you’re not showing up, they’re finding someone else.

How to Set It Up (Really Simple)

  1. Go to google.com/business
  2. Click “Manage now”
  3. Enter your farm name and address
  4. Pick your category (Poultry Farm, Produce Farm, whatever fits)
  5. Add your phone number and hours
  6. Upload 3-5 photos (your animals, your products, your farm stand)

Google will verify you’re real (usually sends a postcard with a code). Once you enter that code, you’re live.

That’s it.

Why This Matters

If your profile is missing or outdated, people just scroll past to the next farm.

And here’s the thing—Google’s getting smarter. Farms that keep their profile active (with photos and reviews) get shown more in search results.

Translation: The farms doing this are getting found. The ones skipping it are invisible.

You Don’t Need to Be Tech-Savvy

This isn’t complicated. Google Business Profile is free and takes just a few minutes to create. If you can post on Facebook, you can do this.

And unlike Facebook, where people have to already know about you, Google puts you in front of people who are actively searching for what you sell.

My Honest Take

I help farmers with websites and marketing, but I’m telling you straight—do this first.

Don’t spend a dime on anything else until your Google Business Profile is set up and complete. It’s free. It works. And it’ll help you way more than a fancy logo or business cards right now.

Here’s the thing: Google Business Profile helps on its own. But when you add a website to it? That’s when it really starts working for you. They connect together and help people find you even easier.

For now though? Just get this done. It’s your most important 20 minutes this month.

Need Help?

If you get stuck or want to make sure it’s done right, I can handle the whole setup for you as part of a website build. Some farmers prefer to DIY it, others would rather hand it off—both work.

Either way, getting your Google Business Profile live is what matters.

And when you’re ready for a website that connects to it and helps you sell more, that’s what we do at Homegrown Hosting—websites built by a farmer for farmers.

Tell Me More

Go claim your spot on Google this week. Your neighbors are searching right now.

Thanks for reading,

P.S. – Once your profile is live, ask your best customers to leave you a review. Reviews are one of the strongest signals that help you rank higher in local searches. Just provide them the link and ask. Most will do it.

with my appreciation,
