1. Getting Started
What is Homegrown Hosting, and who is it for?
Homegrown Hosting is a professional website system built specifically for small farms. We handle everything — hosting, setup, online store, and ongoing support — so you can focus on farming, not tech. One straightforward plan, built for farms that are ready to stop taking orders through Facebook messages and start selling online.
How do I sign up for a website?
Getting started is easy! Click 'See If We're a Fit' to fill out a quick 5-minute questionnaire about your farm. I'll review it personally and we can either hop on a brief call or discuss everything via email—whatever you're more comfortable with. No pressure—just an honest conversation about whether this is the right fit for your farm.
Do I need to have a domain name before signing up?
No! If you don’t have a domain yet, we can help you choose and register one. We recommend NameCheap as they're easy and reliable. If you already have a domain, we’ll connect it to your new website.
Can I see a demo of the website before committing?
Yes! Our demo site (click here) gives you a preview of what your website will look like. Every Farm Launch site uses the same structure — we customize it with your branding, photos, and content to make it yours.
What is included in the base website package?
Every Farm Launch site includes a homepage, Meet Your Farmers page, farm store, and contact page. You'll also get professional email (e.g. info@yourfarm.com), hosting, security, daily backups, and basic SEO setup. Email marketing with Kit and additional pages are available as add-ons.
Do you have a refund policy?
Before you sign up, you'll see our live demo site and know exactly what you're getting. When you sign the project agreement, you're agreeing that the demo site structure works for your farm. I then customize it with your colors, photos, products, and copy. You'll get a preview link to review and request changes before launch.
The $99 setup fee and all monthly payments are non-refundable. Farm Launch is a 12-month minimum commitment at $99/month, billed monthly. After your 12th payment, your plan continues month-to-month and you may cancel at any time with 30 days notice.
When does my website build begin?
As soon as you complete the onboarding questionnaire and send your materials (photos, logo, product info). Most builds start within 3-5 business days and launch within 2-3 weeks depending on how quickly you provide feedback.
2. Website Design & Customization
Can I customize the website design?
Yes! Your website is custom-tailored with your colors, logo, fonts, copy, and photos to match your brand. While the core structure remains the same — because every section is strategically designed to convert visitors into customers — we customize the look and feel to make the site uniquely yours. These are not cookie-cutter templates — they're professionally built websites designed specifically for how farms sell.
What pages are included in my website?
Every Homegrown Hosting site includes a homepage, Meet Your Farmers page, farm store, and contact page. Legal pages are also included — Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Cookie Policy, and Disclaimer. Thank you pages for email sign-up and contact form submissions are set up as well.
The farm store automatically organizes your products by category (beef, pork, eggs, produce, etc.) so customers can browse easily.
Additional pages and email marketing setup with a blog are available as add-ons.
Do you offer logo design and branding help?
If you already have a logo, great — we'll use it. If you don't have one yet, we recommend creating one in Canva before we get started. It's free, easy to use, and works well for farm branding. When you sign up, we'll guide you through colors and fonts as part of the setup process at no extra charge.
3. Hosting, Maintenance & Support
What's included in my monthly plan?
Your $99/month includes premium hosting, site security, daily backups, regular updates, professional email (e.g. info@yourfarm.com), and direct access to me for support. After your site launches, just text or email when you need something updated — usually done within 24–48 hours.
Do you handle site security and updates?
Yes! We take care of software updates, security patches, and backups so you don’t have to worry about your site’s safety.
How do I request website changes or support?
Once your site is live, you'll have your own Basecamp project where you can request changes, upload photos, and communicate directly with me. Need to update a price, swap a photo, or change your hours? Just post it in Basecamp and I'll handle it — usually within 24–48 hours. Content updates like these are included at no extra charge.
What happens if my website goes down?
Our hosting includes uptime monitoring. If there’s an issue, we’re notified immediately and work to fix it.
Do you offer backups and site recovery?
Yes! We back up your site regularly and can restore it if anything goes wrong.
4. Marketing & Growth
Do you provide SEO services?
All websites include basic SEO setup—local search optimization, proper page structure, and technical foundations so Google can find your farm. Most small farms see great results with this included SEO. I don't offer ongoing SEO services, but I can provide recommendations and point you in the right direction if you want to pursue more aggressive strategies.
How can I set up email marketing on my site?
We integrate Kit (formerly ConvertKit) for email marketing — available as an add-on to any Homegrown Hosting site. Setup includes email sign-up forms, a pop-up, an automated welcome email, and a blog page where your emails automatically publish as blog posts. You'll get a full walkthrough so you can manage it with confidence. You write and send your own emails — the system handles the rest from day one.
Do you provide social media integration?
Yes! We can link your website to your social media pages and add social sharing buttons.
What are the best ways to drive traffic to my website?
The farms that see the most traction do a few things consistently: they show up at farmers markets with a website card, they post their website link on their Facebook and Instagram instead of taking orders through DMs, and they send a simple email to their list when new products are available. Your Homegrown Hosting site is built to capture that traffic and turn it into orders. We handle the technical foundation — you focus on getting the word out to people who already know and trust your farm.
Do you offer Google Business Profile setup?
Yes! I'll set up and optimize your Google Business Profile so your farm appears in local searches and on Google Maps. This helps customers in your area find you when they're searching for farms, fresh meat, eggs, or produce nearby. Ask about pricing when you get your free quote.
