Read on my website – Read Time: 5 Minutes

Last week, I ended up in the ER.
I thought I was having heart problems—again. My chest felt tight. My heart was racing. I couldn’t catch my breath. With a history of arrhythmia, I didn’t want to take any chances.
So I went in.
After several hours, an EKG, labs, and some long stretches of staring at the ceiling, the verdict came back: it wasn’t an arrhythmia. It was a panic attack.
Seriously? A panic attack? I’ve had one before (thought it was a heart attack), but just knew this was the real deal. (Sigh)
I almost didn’t share this. I’m not big on oversharing unless there’s something useful in it.
But this felt worth sharing.
Because here’s what hit me the hardest:
Most of us are carrying stress, pressure, and responsibilities that no one else sees.
We show up. We do the work. We send the emails, feed the animals, take care of customers, keep the kids alive, try to squeeze in a meal that isn’t just protein bars and coffee… and we do it without a break, without complaint, and often without anyone really knowing how much it takes.
And then—boom. Your body throws on the brakes.
That was me, in the ER, being reminded that I’m not a machine.
It made me think about how much we all keep hidden.
We see polished moments on social media. Clean emails like this one. YouTube videos that make it look like we’ve figured it all out.
But behind every one of those is a mountain of stuff no one talks about—doubt, fear, stress, exhaustion.
Which brings me to Easter.
Whether you celebrate Easter with faith, with family, or just with a chocolate bunny and a nap, it carries a theme that’s hard to miss: renewal.
Fresh starts. New life. Second chances.
This week, after getting out of the hospital and catching my breath—literally—I looked around the farm and saw it everywhere.
The grass is starting to grow again. Trees are budding. We’ve got new chicks on the way, fresh plans, and that faint but familiar feeling that maybe, just maybe, things will be okay. I also wasn’t dying so that helped too!
That panic attack wasn’t just a health scare. It was a wake-up call.
A reminder to slow down. To breathe.
To pay attention to what’s going on beneath the surface—before your body decides to do it for you.
So if you’ve been going too hard for too long, if you’ve been pushing and no one seems to notice, or if you’ve had your own version of an “ER moment” lately… you’re not alone.
Give yourself some grace. Step outside. Let the sun hit your face.
Let Easter—however you observe it—be a reminder that it’s okay to begin again.
We’re all in this together, even if it doesn’t always look like it.
Until next week,
—Jason
