Read on my website – Read Time: 3-4 Minutes

Most farmers ask me:
- How do I sell more products?
- How do I get more customers?
- How do I grow my farm business?
These are great questions, and I’ve answered them countless times in newsletters, blog posts, and videos.
But there’s one question no one ever asks me, and it’s the most important one of all:
Why are your customers happy?
Why Is This Such an Important Question?
This flips the focus from how you can grow to how your customers can benefit.
And here’s the truth:
If your customers aren’t happy, you’re not growing—or at best, you’re falling short of your potential.
What Keeps Customers Coming Back?
Think about your farm products. Customers love:
- Pasture-raised pork
- Grass-fed beef
- Farm-fresh eggs
But what really keeps them coming back?
Is it the quality? The convenience of local delivery? The story of your farm?
The answer lies in understanding what truly makes your customers happy.
Here’s How to Start
1. Talk to ThemAsk your customers what they love most or what could be better. Real conversations lead to real insights.
Try these strategies:
- Email surveys to get quick feedback.
- Follow up a few days to a week after a purchase to ask how everything went.
2. Deliver Value FirstMake it about solving their problems.
For example:
- The mom who wants healthy options for her kids.
- The customer who wants sustainably raised products to help the planet.
- The person recovering from illness who needs clean, chemical-free food.

It’s the old drill bit adage. People don’t buy a drill bit because they want a drill bit. They want a hole in the wall.
When they buy their drill bit, they’re buying a solution to their problem, which is they need a hole in the wall.
3. Refine Your OfferingUse feedback to improve. Small changes can lead to big results.
Think of it this way:
Hundreds of small variations in how you do things can collectively create huge improvements over time.
One Tool That Keeps My Customers Happy
One thing that has made a huge difference for my farm is my website.
It lets people:
- Learn about my farm.
- Browse products.
- Place orders anytime they want.
This small shift has made life easier for my customers—and for me.
